Call for Registration - 2017 CGA Conference: The Drone Revolution in Spatial Analysis

This year's CGA conference aims at illuminating the profound changes drones have brought to mapping practice, from platform and sensor selection, flight path planning, field operations, data processing, image analysis, feature extraction, 3-D model construction, and visualization. Experts will share their experiences with application cases and first-hand operational logistics. The conference preliminary program is available online. To register, please click here.

BCN Drone Center Workshops and Training Discount

The BCN Drone Center is one of the only ten drone Test Sites in the world. Professionals from 60+ nationalities already used the facilities and participated in the formation programs. Marc Beltran (COO) and Jordi Salvador (CTO) of the BCN Drone Center will be offering a workshop on 'Drones for Demining' and 'Computer Vision & Drones' at the CGA 2017 conference on the Drone Revolution in Spatial Analysis. The conference and its workshops are free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Click here to register.

The BCN Drone Center has also granted all Harvard students, faculty and staff a 20% discount to all the training programs based in Barcelona, Spain. CGA offers several non-credit technical training workshops related to GIS (Free to Harvard affiliates but registration is required). The workshops are:

Preceptor in Geospatial Analysis

Harvard University seeks applications for a preceptor in geospatial analysis. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2017. The preceptor will be responsible for designing and teaching introductory undergraduate and graduate courses in geospatial analysis. Read more

CGA Service Charge Rate Increase

Starting on January 1st, 2017, the CGA standard service charge rate has been changed to $85/hr. We will remain flexible on offering discounts to the first time users. Read more

Tabular Mapping

Harvard's WorldMap and Dataverse teams have been working together on a new capability called "Tabular Mapping", which lets researchers turn spreadsheets into maps. The Dataverse team is now scheduling usability testing for this and other new Dataverse features. Please sign up here if you are interested, and help shape the future of these systems. The project is funded by the Boston Area Research Initiative.

Lunch Seminar: Connectography: Mapping the Future of Global Civilization

Parag Khanna will present his book, "Connectography: Mapping the Future of Global Civilization". In this book Khanna guides us through the emerging global network civilization in which mega-cities compete over connectivity more than borders. His journeys take us from Ukraine to Iran, Mongolia to North Korea, Panama City to Dubai, and the Arctic Circle to the South China Sea-all to show how 21st century conflict is a tug-of-war over pipelines and Internet cables, advanced technologies and market access. Political Analytics Hackathon

The 2017 Harvard Political Analytics Hackathon is an opportunity for people with an interest in data and politics to help tell the story of the 2016 election. The event will take place on the afternoon and evening of Thursday, March 30, and select teams will present their results in a panel session at the conference on March 31. Read more

China AQI Air Pollution Datasets on Dataverse

The CGA has been collecting datasets from various sources containing cumulative AQI Air Pollution monitoring observations. These datasets are now accessible from here.

Call for Participation: UCGIS Summer School 2017

In May 2017, UCGIS will launch its first Summer School for graduate students and early-career scholars who are affiliated with UCGIS member institutions. This year the theme will be Collaborative Problem Solving with CyberGIS and Geospatial Data Science. Applications are due by February 20, 2017. Read more
