Mapping Your Life - A free workshop from the Out of Eden Walk project

The Out of Eden Walk project is a 7-year storytelling walk across the world. The CGA's Jeff Blossom has been making maps for this project, and wrote a summary of the team's staff meeting held recently in Tbilisi, Georgia. In a new educational initiative funded by this project, the CGA will be offering two free mapping workshops this fall. Each full day workshop will teach students how to make basic reference and thematic maps, and an interactive online story map using geotagged photos and GPS locations. For more information and to register for the October 17th workshop in Cambridge, MA click here. For more information and to register for the November 20th workshop in Washington D.C. click here.

The Out of Eden Walk nonprofit has launched a crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter. While National Geographic and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation generously support this global storytelling journey, it still depends on the contributions of readers to keep going. Please consider donating. Understanding Today's Online GIS User Through the Lens of a WorldMap Survey

This study analyzes the results of a WorldMap survey, by summarizing the responses to each question described their activities, purposes, experiences, and preferences regarding the system independently and by examining the relationships and dependencies of these answers across the different questions to try to better understand why users responded the way they did. We aim to use the survey results to improve our understanding of user demographics and needs. Findings from this study will be used to guide WorldMap improvements, and we hope the findings will also shed light on the broader requirements of online GIS users. Read the full paper here.
